The definition of “Applicant” in Malaysia Type Approval certification is sourced from eTAC/DOC/01-1.1. This document is a guideline of certification requirement for Type Approval on Communication, Multimedia, and Hybrid Equipment in Malaysia. According to article number 3.3 of this document, applicant in SIRIM certification must be an entity registered in Malaysia that has valid number of ROC (Registration of Company) or ROB (Registration of Business). This registration number is managed by Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM). Then, what company category can apply for Malaysia Type Approval certifications? It can be classified as 5 company classification below:
- Manufacturer
- Assembler
- Importer
- Network Operator/Service Provider
- Authorized Consultant
In the application process, applicant must appoint management representative that will be responsible for the application. This responsibility includes registering the company to e-ComM online registration system, becoming the administrator of company’s account, and becoming the point of contact between applicant and SIRIM.
Further, it’s stated that applicant may appoint consultant companies to submit the application on their behalf. These consultants will be listed on e-ComM system. SIRIM is not involved in this consultant appointment matters, it’s completely between applicant and their consultant’s partner. However, when necessary or when applicant requests, SIRIM has the authorization to remove consultant from the e-ComM system.
Why We Care
Like some other countries in Southeast Asia, Malaysia only allows local companies to be certificate holder. This means; when companies are about to process Malaysia Type Approval certification, it’s advisable for them to have Malaysian partner first. It can be their distributor, importer, assembler, or network operator. Without having local partner in Malaysia, approval certification cannot be processed.
Then, how if we don’t have local partner yet, but we need the certificate for marketing purpose?
