After a telecommunication product receives Brazil Type Approval certificate, it is mandatory for the manufacturer to apply ANATEL mark on the product. This mark consists of three components: ANATEL Logo, Bar Code, and the Approval ID. The bar code can be downloaded/generated by the local certificate holder. Below is the example of ANATEL mark:
The use of black and while label is allowed. However, applicant needs to get authorization from ANATEL Prior to the label application. Regarding the dimension, here’s the minimum dimensions for ANATEL Label:
- Logo Height: 4 mm
- Test Height: 1 mm
- Right and Left side of the bar code: there should be 2.5 mm of space
- Logo must be surrounded by space equal or greater than half the height of round sphere in the logo.
If the product dimension is too small so it cannot accommodate the minimum label dimension, it is allowed to affix the label to user manual, and on the packaging (optional). Then on the product, manufacturer can state only the following: ANATEL: XXXX-YY-ZZZZ. Where “XXXX-YY-ZZZZ” refers to the approval ID of the product.
However, to apply the method above, applicant needs to get prior authorization letter from ANATEL to confirm their acceptance to this labelling method. And if in the future ANATEL finds out that the product actually can accommodate the full label, they will reject/revoke the authorization letter and request manufacturer to use the standard-minimum label dimension.
Besides ANATEL certificate logo, once a product obtained Brazil Type Approval Certificate, manufacturer is also mandatory to put essential information on the product or on the packaging. This essential information is:
- Model Name
- Brand or manufacturer
- Country of Origin
- Approval Code or unique 12-digit codes
For the approval code, the format would be: XXXXX-YY-ZZZZZ. The first five digits are the sequential number of the product. The next two codes are the year of production. And the last five codes represent manufacturer’s identifiers.
Why We Care
Compliance label is a significant component of the product. This can be an identifier that the product has obtained some compliance certifications. So, when there’s market surveillance, the inspector will know that the product is already comply to the local regulation and no need a further follow up. Talking about Brazil Type Approval label, we must pay more attention. The reason is because ANATEL label is quite complex with multiple components. Besides, some types of labels need prior approval from the authorities. Therefore, the label must be prepared carefully according to the applied labelling rule.
