The SNI Certification for a Fire Hydrant Installation

The SNI Certification for a Fire Hydrant Installation – Installation of a fire hydrant should be carried out by expert technicians who are professional and experienced in their field.

This is because the installation of the hydrant must comply with the SNI regulations that are applied in Indonesia.

If it does not comply with the SNI regulation, it is most likely that the hydrant installation will not work optimally.

So, how is the SNI certification for a fire hydrant installation? Let’s the a look at the explanation down below!

The SNI Certification for a Fire Hydrant Installation

A hydrant installation is a set of equipment used to provide emergency assistance during a fire by providing a water supply to extinguish the fire.

Fire hydrant is one of the most important types of fire protection devices. With sufficient water available, the firefighter officers can use the water supply to help extinguish the fire.

Because it has a very important function, the hydrant must be installed according to the standard.

There are 3 regulations that are applied in Indonesia. Take a look down below!

1. SNI 03-1735-2000

SNI 03-1735-2000 is a standard on planning methods of building access and environmental access for the prevention of fire hazards on buildings.

This standard is a standard for road planning and access to the buildings. The implementation of this standard aims to make fire-fighting and rescue operations more effective.

2. SNI 03-1745-2000

SNI 03-1745-2000 is a standard that regulates the methods of planning and installation of vertical piping and hydrant hose systems for the prevention of fire hazards in buildings.

This regulation covers minimum requirements for installation of a fire hydrant and vertical pipe systems on a building or building.

3. SNI 03-3989-2000

The last one is the SNI 03-3989-2000 which regulates the planning and installation of an automatic sprinkler system.

The objectives of this standard include the provision of fire extinguisher installations on each floors of an industrial buildings, and other types of buildings that suits to the classification of residential properties.

The Main Components of Fire Hydrant Installation

The SNI Certification for a Fire Hydrant Installation

1. Sufficient Water

The fire hydrant system needs sufficient water to be properly functioning as a fire fighting system.

It usually consists of a ground tank that serves as a water source and reservoirs to the fire hydrant system.

The amount of water in the water reservoir must be linked to the needs of the hydrant itself, and also overall building sizes.

2. Hydrant Pump

The hydrant installation is equipped with a pump room that contains the main components of the fire hydrant such as the hydrant pumps, control panel, and also piping systems.

All of these components work as an engine to distribute the water to be used as a fire extinguisher.

The hydrant pumps will push the water supply to the hydrant pillar, hydrant valve, and fire sprinkler.

There are three types of hydrant pumps such as:

  • Jockey Pumps
  • Electric Pumps
  • Diesel Pumps

3. Piping System

The piping system serves as a water distribution system. Through these hydrant pipes, the water supply from the ground tank will be distributed to the output components, namely hydrant pillar, fire sprinkler, and hydrant valve.

4. Siamese Connection

The siamese connection serves as a supporting component in a fire hydrant installation. The function of this component is to support the water supply to the fire extinguisher hydrant.

If the ground tank’s water supply is exhausted, firefighters can channel the water supply from the firefighter’s truck, so the building’s fire extinguisher can still get the water to extinguish the fire.

5. Pillar Hydrant

The hydrant system is also equipped with a component called a pillar hydrant that serves as the outlet of the hydrant system’s water.

The water supply from the ground tank will pass through the piping network towards the pillar hydrant.

Well, the pillar hydrant is the components that will flow the water media towards the source of the fire.

6. Hydrant Box

Hydrant box is a fire hydrant component that serves to store fire extinguisher tools and accessories. With a hydrant box, it can be easier for rescuers to get the necessary tools and equipment.

The hydrant box should be installed in an area that is easily visible and accessible. The goal is to accelerate the fire extinguishment process in an emergency.
