Fire Suppression System Maintenance

Fire Suppression System Maintenance – The fire suppression systems must always be in top condition to ensure it can function properly.

And for that reason a routine inspection is an important thing to do in order to make sure that every component in the fire suppression system can work properly in case of a fire.

Through the routine inspection, you can detect any problem or damage that might appear in the fire suppression system and perform a proper action to prevent any further damage.

So, how is it to properly execute the fire suppression system maintenance? Take a look at the explanation down below to fully understand it!

Fire Suppression System Maintenance

1. Do a Visual Inspection

The one thing and most important thing is to do a visual inspection of the fire suppression system components thoroughly.

This will ensure that the component is not damaged physically and indicate if there’s any cracks, leaks, or corrosion what might happen on the pipes or nozzles.

Also, make sure that you take a closer look at the nozzles and make sure there aren’t any blockages that will disrupt the system.

The visual inspection is also important to detect any problems early on so you can properly perform the necessary actions.

2. Test The Fire Detectors

This is also an important thing to do as the fire detector is the most important component in the fire suppression systems.

The role of a fire detector is to detect any signs of fire early on. So, if this component fails, the entire fire suppression system would experience catastrophic failure.

You can perform the necessary inspection by simply checking or calibrating the detector if needed to ensure its sensitivity and accuracy of the fire detectors.

3. Control Panel

Notice any physical damage such as cracks, peeled off wires, or loose buttons. Also carefully check the electrical connections, as poor connections can interfere with system performance.

In addition, check the function of all indicator lights and signals. Each indicator lamp has a specific meaning that indicates the system’s status, so make sure all lights are on as they should be.

In addition, test the signal sent by the control panel to another component. Listen to the sound or movement of the component in response to the signal delivered.

Also, you can test the overall control panel performance. Enable various functions controlled by the panel, such as turning on or off the pump, opening or closing the valve, or adjusting the motor speed.

Take note whether all commands given through the control panel are executed correctly by the related components. If there is an abnormality or failure, take imagentte necessary action.

4. Check the Alarm

Routine maintenance of fire alarm systems is an important step to ensure the performance of fire suppression systems.

The main purpose of this maintenance is to keep the early fire alarm system always operating optimally.

By conducting periodic checks, you can detect any damage or interference to fire alarm components early on, such as smoke sensors, sirens, or batteries.

In addition to ensuring the basic functioning of the fire alarm, maintenance should also include checking the integration of the system with other emergency warning equipment.

Make sure that the fire alarm is well connected to the evacuation system, such as an emergency light or emergency door.

Good integration will ensure that all building inhabitants can receive fire alarms simultaneously and carry out evacuation actions quickly and orderly. Thus, the risk of casualties and material damage from the fires can be minimized.

5. Test the Extinguishing Agent

Not least important in the maintenance of fire suppression systems is to check that extinguishing agents such as water, dry chemicals, gasses, or foams play a crucial role in trying to extinguish the fire.

Therefore, it is necessary to conduct periodic checks to ensure that the quality and quantity of the extinguishing agents still meet the standards.

The maintenance includes checking the pressure, leakage, as well as contamination on the extinguishing agent.

In addition to that, it is also necessary to replace the extinguishing agent that is no longer worthy of use.

The extinguishing agent has a certain lifetime and will lose its effectiveness over time, and because of that , the extinguishing agent that is approaching or passing the expiration date must be replaced.

In addition, a previously used extinguishing agent is also recommended to be replaced, especially if it has been used for the most part.

Periodic replacement of the extinguisher agent will ensure that the fire extinguishing system is ready in the face of an emergency.

So there you have it! The explanation of the fire suppression systems maintenance!
