What To Do When You Accidentally Put Dish Soap in a Dishwasher

You can follow these steps if you accidentally put dish soap in a dishwasher:

1. Stop The Cycle

Upon realizing that you used regular dish soap in the dishwasher, immediately cancel the wash cycle to prevent foam and bubbles from overflowing from the machine door.

If a spill has already occurred, immediately wipe up the foamy water with a dry towel to prevent further damage to the floor and machine.

2. Drain and Remove Dishes From The Racks

After you’ve stopped the wash cycle, press the drain button to remove any residual water from the machine.

Then you can remove all the dirty dishes from your dishwasher and rinse them manually by hand in your kitchen sink.

3. Add Cooking Oil and Select Quick Wash Cycle

After all the dishes are taken out of the dishwasher, you can add ¼ cup of cooking oil to the bottom of your dishwasher then run a quick wash cycle on.
