Functions of Capacitor In a Fan

What are the functions of a capacitor in a fan? As one of the important components of the fan, the function of the fan capacitor is very important to know.

Basically, damage to this component is a fatal thing that is one of the vital indicators that the fan is completely dead.

So, what are the functions of a capacitor in a fan? And why is this component so important and crucial for a fan? Find out the answer in today’s article at dimulti.id!

Functions of Capacitor In a Fan

Functions of Capacitor In a Fan

Basically, there are 2 functions of the fan capacitor. What are they? Here’s the full explanation:

1. Powering the Fan Rotation

One of the functions of a fan capacitor is to store the charge of electric current. Because the fan requires considerable power to generate initial rotation.

When the fan starts rotating, the power taken from the charge stored in the capacitor will be needed.

Therefore, the presence of a fan capacitor is very useful to make this electronic device operate properly.

2. Controlling The Rotation Speed

The second function of the fan capacitor is to determine the rotational speed of the fan. For example, when you replace the capacitor size with a larger one, the fan rotation will also become faster.

Meanwhile, if you replace the smaller fan capacitor size, the rotation will also become smaller.

Therefore, before changing the capacitor, consider the size of the new fan capacitor to make sure that it is not too far from the size of the original capacitor!

How the Fan Capacitor Works

Functions of Capacitor In a Fan

Capacitors, though small and perhaps invisible, actually play a huge role in how a fan works.

When the fan is turned on, the capacitor starts doing its job by regulating the voltage that the fan motor receives.

Think of a capacitor as a very precise speed regulator that stores and releases electrical energy in the form of varying charges.

How does this process happen? When the fan is turned on, the capacitor starts working by storing an electrical charge.

This charge is then released in the form of a variable voltage that is sent to the fan’s motor or armature.

With the voltage regulated by the capacitor, the motor can adjust its rotation speed. So, if you select a higher speed on the fan regulator, the capacitor will discharge more energy, produce a higher voltage, and make the fan blades spin faster.

Conversely, if you select a lower speed, the capacitor will regulate a lower voltage, and the motor will spin slower.

In this way, the capacitor ensures that the fan operates efficiently and according to your chosen settings.

Fan Capacitor Sizes

Fan capacitor sizes vary. They range from 1.5uF/250 Volts, 2.5 uF, and 3.3 uF.

Therefore, you can change the size of the fan capacitor to a larger sized capacitor. For example, you can change the 2.5uf fan capacitor size to a 1.5uF size.

Don’t forget that this also has an impact on the fan’s rotation speed level, which becomes slower!

But on the other hand if the small capacitor is replaced with a larger one, the fan rotation rate will also be faster. But it comes with the risk of the coils or windings becoming more easily damaged.

So there you have it! The functions of capacitor in a fan!

Did you know that the electric fan is one of the many products that are mandatory to be certified by the SNI certification in Indonesia?

This is because the risk of an electric fan might be concerning for the Indonesian consumers, as the fan that is not properly manufactured can cause a failure and can even be dangerous for its users.

The electric fan that is about to be distributed in Indonesia must undergo a series of tests to determine its quality and safety.

After all of those tests have passed and the electric fan is met with the requirements that have been set, the electric fan is ready to be distributed and sold in the Indonesian market.

For the electric fan and other household electrical devices, the regulation is clearly stated in SNI IEC 60335-1:2009.
