1. Multistage Multiport Pump 

The first and most widely used of the hydrant pump type is the multistage multiport pump.

As its name implies, you can guess that this type of pump is equipped with many water outlets, so there are more pillar hydrants that can be connected.

Most of these multistage multiport pumps are used for skyscrapers that are over 30 floors high. With multistage multiport pumps, water can be distributed to the pillars on all floors quickly.

2. End Suction Pump

The next one is the end suction pump, the end suction pump is a type of single-stage hydrant pump that only has one inlet and one outlet.

The size of the end suction pump is much smaller, because the pump can only flow about five thousand liters per minute at a speed of 1,500 gallons per minute.

End suction pumps are more commonly used in simple rooms such as halls, and buildings that are consist of only one floor, because they are easier to install and do not require much technical maintenance.

3. In-Line Pump

The next type of hydrant pump is the in-line pump or pump that is positioned in one line.

This type of hydrant pump is about the size of an end suction pump. It’s just, the in-line pump is mounted vertically, so the space needed is smaller.

The water pressure strength of the in-line pump is also not much different from the end suction pump, which is about 1,500 gallons per minute with an approximate volume of water that can be discharged is five thousand liters per minute.

But, the total price and installation cost of this water pump machine is much cheaper, even being one of the cheapest.

The cheaper initial price doesn’t come with a downside, as if it breaks, the maintenance cost for the in-line pump is much more expensive.

4. Multistage Pump

A multistage pump is a type of pump with two or more impellers. There are even pumps with more than 80 impellers for the needs of the oil and biochemical industries.

And also because of the presence of two or more impellers, this type of pump can generate twice or more as much pressure as a regular pump.

Increasing water pressure doesn’t always mean better pump quality. Therefore, there are still certain hydrant systems that can only use single-stage pumps as its pumping system.

As for multistage pumps, these pumps are usually used for fire extinguishing systems in high-rise buildings because the single-stage pump cannot produce enough pressure to flow water to the highest floor of the building.

5. Horizontal Split-case Pump

Horizontal split-case pump is another electric pump that can also be used as a diesel pump.

This type of hydrant pump has two exits, so it can be used by two hoses to extinguish a larger fire.

Diesel pumps of this type are more often placed outside buildings because they are so large and require direct access to water sources.

6. Centrifugal Pumps

The centrifugal pump is the main element in any hydrant system that functions to flow water to each pillar of the system.

Centrifugal pumps are able distribute the water in a large volumes quickly, so in the hydrant systems of buildings that do not use multistage pumps, these electric pumps are placed at the earliest near the water source.

7. Positive Displacement Pumps

And finally the last type of hydrant pump is a positive displacement pump.

In terms of its usage, the positive displacement pumps can only flow water in limited volumes.

So, this tool is often used in small buildings with low fire risk but still has to have a fire hydrant system as a form of caution.
