DJID is planning to implement the additional EMC test items – Immunity testing

In the previous article, we have introduced you regarding the EMC test implementation in order to obtain DJID certification for telecommunication and non-telecommunication products. But now, DJID has invited the stake holders [local distributors, local representatives, manufacturers, test labs, agencies] to fill the questionaries related to the EMC immunity testing implementation. These questionaries were taken place from June 4th until June 20th, 2025 to gather the stake holders’ opinion before DJID issues the new regulation for immunity testing.

For your information, the current EMC testing items that are implemented still focusing on the emission level emitted from the products, the current EMC testing is focusing on how well the product can reduce its interference level towards the other surrounding nearby products via air [radiated], power line [conducted], or the ports [RJ45, RJ11, and SFP]. The current test is classified as the Electromagnetic Interference testing which takes some standards such as EN301489 and CISPR32. However, when doing the EMC test at the local Indonesian lab, these labs are only capable using CISPR32 standards.

Along with technological developments, the product’s quality is not only determined from how well the product can reduce its interference level towards the other surrounding products, but the product itself must be able to withstand the some certain of interference level coming from the surrounding product. Therefore, we believe this is the main reason why now DJID is planning to implement the immunity testing for the EMC requirement. As one of the main functions of DJID is to ensure all the certified products has met the quality standards and safe to be used. DJID also held the sharing session online and offline with the stake holders [local distributors, local representatives, manufacturers, test labs, agencies], it is said that this immunity testing will use standard CSIPR35 and in this event DJID also explained that Indonesia already has 3 accredited testing lab that can perform EMC immunity testing. Now let us get know more what the immunity test is.

What is Immunity Testing for EMC?

It is a type of EMC testing item that measures the ability of the telecommunication or non-telecommunication product to withstand the electromagnetic interference to ensure the products’ reliably when exposed to various electromagnetic disturbances from the opposite devices or surrounding equipment. This means that the product can function properly even when exposed to electromagnetic interference from other devices in its intended operating environment by simulating the following test simulation.

What are the test items in Immunity testing?

1. Radiated immunity

It is performed to measure the ability of product to withstand the radiated electromagnetic interference simulated using the RF amplifier and signal generator.

2. Conducted immunity

It is performed to measure the ability of product to withstand the conducted electromagnetic interference simulated using the RF amplifier and signal generator in the same power line.

3. Electrostatic discharge (ESD)

It is performed to measure the ability of product to withstand the electrostatic discharge that usually occurs if there are 2 operational devices come close or into contact. This testing is simulated using ESD gun.

4. Electrical fast transient (EFT)

It is performed to measure the ability of product to withstand the electrical fast transient simulated using the EFT pulse generator.

5. Surge test

It is performed to measure the ability of product to withstand the surge or we can say short-time overvoltage simulated using the power supply and wave generator.

6. Voltage dip

It is performed to measure the ability of product to withstand the voltage dip or we can say short duration temporary voltage drop, it also simulated by using power supply and wave generator.

7. Magnetic field test

It is performed to measure the ability of product to withstand the magnetic field interference from the other opposite or surrounding product’s electrical components simulated using the magnetic field generator.

In the current situation, DJID has not officially announced if these full immunity test items will be required or they will choose some certain of test items only, We hope from this article we can give you some imagination regarding the new immunity test requirements.
