One of the frequently asked questions regarding Korea Type Approval is about sample requirements. No wonder because sample plays an important role in determining the success of an approval process. Especially for the country that obligates testing in the local laboratory, the suitability of the samples and type of testing is really important. Usually, sample requirement depends on the type of testing that will be conducted. This requirement will of course, follow the requirement of each testing type. So, we need to know what type of testing that will be performed there.

For South Korea Type approval, typically the telecommunication product applying for KC approval need to undergo RF and EMC testing. Besides, for some products that in its normal operation will be used close to or near the body, it will be mandatory to perform SAR testing too. Therefore, typically for one product that requires to do all those tests, we need to provide at least 3 types of samples: one conducted sample that will be used for RF test, one normal sample that will be used for EMC test, and one radiated sample that will be used for SAR test.

However, before shipping the sample to South Korea for local testing process there, we need to consult with the service provider about what samples are required for our product. Because in some cases, different product requires different sample setup. So, for more accurate judgement regarding what type of samples required by our product, consulting with the expert is highly recommended.

Why We Care

As informed earlier, knowing sample requirement in the early stage of approval process is very important. This rule is applied especially if we’re targeting approval certificate in the country that obligates local test. Such as South Korea for example, approval certificate can only be obtained if the applicant passes the test. In order to do that, the provided sample must align with the requirement for each testing. So, before we start to process South Korea Type Approval, we will surely make sure that the sample provided already comply with the requirements.
