Wireless Power Transmission

The use of Wireless Power Transmission (WPT) technology on product like wireless charger is getting more and more common nowadays. Especially with the increasing number of consumer products with wireless charging feature such as smart phone, smart watch, smart ring, TWS, and so on, it creates significant demands of wireless charging station in the market.

As we know, internationally Wireless Power Transmission already has its own standard such as Qi. However, when it comes to the country level, usually each country or region will have it own localized standards that most likely to be adopted from the existing international standard.

For the case of Indonesia, currently Wireless Power Transmission standard is covered under local regulation called KEPMEN KOMINFO NO 260 TAHUN 2024. This is the technical standard for Short Range Device, where WPT is also classified into. In this regulation, WPT is allocated to some frequency ranges, as explained below.

Wireless Power Transmission Regulation Draft

However, with the fast advancement of WPT technology, Indonesian Authority, in this case is represented by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affair (KOMDIGI), thinks that it needs to stipulate new wireless power transmission regulation which can accommodate more allocations based on International Telecommunication Union (ITU) recommendation. Therefore, on December 18th, 2024, the ministry issued a regulation draft of wireless power transmission. You may check the official announcement from KOMDIGI for WPT regulation draft in this link. And to give you better understanding, here is the English translation for this regulation draft.

Disclaimer, we don’t own the original source of the regulation draft above. The regulation draft is owned by Ministry of Communication and Digital Affair of the Republic of Indonesia. As mentioned in the regulation above, the notable updates regarding WPT standard is on the frequency allocation. There is some frequency ranges added, and the new WPT allocations in the regulation draft are:

  1. 100–119 kHz;
  2. 119–135 kHz;
  3. 135–140 kHz;
  4. 140–148,5 kHz;
  5. 315–405 kHz;
  6. 1700–1800 kHz;
  7. 6765–6795 kHz; and
  8. 13,553–13,567 MHz.

Besides additional frequency ranges allocation, the new regulation draft also talks about: Technical Standard, testing method, technical operational requirements, and the withdrawal of Wireless Power Transmission standard from its current standard KEPMEN KOMINFO NO 260 TAHUN 2024.
