Dimulti’s New Services: Southeast Asia Type Approval Certification

Of course, accessing bigger market is a new challenge for the company, especially with language boundaries, different standards, and many other blockages. But, with the in-depth and thorough research that was done prior to this announcement, DIMULTI is confident to launch its new services: Southeast Asia Type Approval Certification. What’s offered by the company in Southeast Asia approval market? and which countries are covered? Those are the main point to discuss below.

1. Previous Services: Indonesia Type Approval Certification

For more than 17 years, DIMULTI has been offering type approval certification services for Indonesian market, particularly for DJID and SNI Certification.

A. DJID Certification

DJID stands for Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure or formerly known as SDPPI. This is the Directorate General under the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, who’s in charge of doing telecommunication product certification. The output of this certification process is called DJID certificate.

In DJID certification process, DJID acts as the only certification body in the country. Meaning that they are the one responsible for not only setting up the local standard, but they’re also defining the certification operational procedures. Moreover, DJID is also responsible of doing product testing through its testing lab called BBPPT. Although there are some other privates testing labs in Indonesia, but BBPPT maintains to be the biggest and most holistic telecommunication testing labs in Indonesia. Apart from product testing, DJID also evaluates the application submitted, to finally issue the final output of this process, which is the DJID certificate itself.

In its actual implication, DJID certificate is required by all telecommunication products and non-telecommunication products that has telecommunication features. Simply speaking, all devices that has telecommunication features that are manufactured, assembled, or imported for being used and/or traded within the territory of Indonesia are mandatory to do DJID certification.

B. SNI certification

Whereas SNI, it stands for National Standard of Indonesia. Unlike DJID, SNI certification put more concerns on the safety aspects of a product. This certification is managed by multiple certification bodies which are accredited by National Accreditation Committee (KAN). Some of these certification bodies comes from private sector, while some others are managed by some ministries. Besides multiple certification bodies, SNI also has multiple available testing labs. Some are government-owned test labs, while some others are private-owned test labs. All these labs are accredited and assessed by KAN to be able to perform certain SNI standard, depending on their testing scope.

Both DJID and SNI has the same purpose. These certifications are done to ensure that the products sold within Indonesian territory comply with applicable technical standards. Therefore, buyer can get the proper product quality they deserve. Particularly for SNI, the certification procedures are also done to secure the safety aspect of the product, so it can minimize any harm that’s possibly affect to the users.

2. Expanding to Southeast Asia Type Approval Services

With a long experience of doing Indonesian type approval certification, in 2025 DIMULTI is confident to expand its services to Southeast Asia Type Approval market. Indeed, Southeast Asia is a challenging market, especially when dealing with type approval certification. Although this region is growing massively in terms of technology adaptations for the past few years, most countries are still trying to catch up with the technology updates. As a result, they are constantly issuing new regulation and technical standards which sometimes, can be too quick to follow. Besides, each standard can be very specific for each country and mostly are presented in local language. These are where the barriers usually come up.

Understanding each country’s specific standards in their local language can be very difficult. We need local support to actually catch and navigate what the actual meaning of the regulation. And this is the reason why DIMULTI decides to enter the market in the first place. Our goal is clear; to assist manufacturer, distributor, importer, factory, or any other parties who wants to access Southeast Asia Type Approval certification. Not only to be able to obtain the type approval certificate, but obtaining it timely without any hassle will be our plus point. So, at the end, together we can get the products standardized according to each country’s applicable standards.

A. Southeast Asia Type Approval Services Coverage

The intentions of accessing Southeast Asia Type Approval market actually have been initiated from long time ago. For the past few years, Dimulti has explored and conducted long research for SEA market. And the result is interesting. As said before, each country in South Asia region has its own characteristics in terms of standard and administrational procedures. That’s why sometimes it can be challenging to access it. And finally, after a long consideration, the company came into conclusion to open SEA services. Some countries that are covered are:

  • Malaysia with its SIRIM certification,
  • Singapore’s IMDA certification,
  • Vietnam’s MIC Certification,
  • Philippines’ NTC, Certification
  • Thailand’s NBTC Certification, and
  • Cambodia’s TRC certifications.

However, the service is not limited to those countries only. When there’s opportunity for other countries, especially in SEA region, we’d be happy to help customer with that.

Although currently we have successfully closed some applications for some of those Southeast Asia countries, we’re still not finished with the research. As mentioned earlier, Southeast Asia Type Approval is a challenging market with high level of complexity. Besides the language barrier, some countries also have the specific technical requirements which is sometimes can be different from other known international standards such as CE and FCC. Even some countries obligate to do local testing. Therefore, our research would be continuous and ever-growing to catch up with the approval updates.
