Indonesian RLAN Regulation Draft – Radio Local Area Network (RLAN) is one of the most widely used wireless technologies. Its application ranges from small scales personal-use, to public spaces, and to even wider scales of industrial use. Nowadays it is not difficult to find a place with wireless access coverage. That’s why the demand of this broader wireless access is getting higher and higher. As a result, authorities are demanded to open more spectrum allocation as well as setting up the limit to secure the quality of this wireless technology.
The issuance of Indonesian RLAN Regulation Draft
With the rapid advancement of wireless technology, and the demand to provide more access to it, on December 18th 2024, Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Digital affairs issued a regulation draft for Radio Local Area Network. This Indonesian RLAN Regulation Draft is issued to the public for a public consultation session that is opened only for 5 days. What become the highlights from this new regulation draft? Here’s some keys to note:
Frequency allocation is the highlight from this new Indonesian RLAN Regulation Draft. Here, we can see that Indonesia is planning to add wider spectrum allocation based on their class license. For RLAN, the allocated frequency are planned to be the following:

- 57–64 GHz.
Besides frequency ranges, this RLAN regulation draft also includes the technical standards for RLAN devices that are divided into 3 categories:
- RLAN devices operating within 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequency ranges,
- RLAN devices operating within 6 GHz frequency ranges, and
- RLAN devices operating within 60 GHz frequency ranges.
The standard mentioned are power supply requirements, technical standard (consists of Power supply requirements, Electrical Safety Requirements, Non-Ionization Requirements, Radio frequency requirements), testing method, and operational and technical requirements. With the issuance of this regulation, a questions occured on whether or not this new Indonesian RLAN Regulation Draft is planned to replace the current Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) regulation which is PERDIRJEN SDPPI NO02 TAHUN 2019, especially because this new regulation draft doesn’t mention anything about PERDIRJEN SDPPI NO 02 TAHUN 2019. From our assumption, it will. We assume that the ministry will issue another regulation to withdraw PERDIRJEN SDPPI NO 02 TAHUN 2019. So the withdrawal is not included in the new RLAN regulation. This is similar to the old SRD regulation that was also withdrawn in a separated regulation, not in the new SRD regulation.
