On February 11th 2020, Directorate General Of Posts and Information (SDPPI) issued a technical reference called Directorate General of Resources and Equipment for Post and Information Technology Regulation Number 03 of 2020 (known as “PERDIRJEN SDPPI No 3 Tahun 2020”). This regulation regulates specifically about Automotive Short Range Radar System operating within the range of 76 – 77 Ghz. As its name, this regulation is only applied to vehicular radar operating within 76 – 77 GHz, not to other kinds of radars or sensors which operate within the same frequency range. As we know, there was an issue toward vehicular radar 76-77 GHz application at the time of the issuance of this regulation. This is because back then, there was no local lab can perform radar testing based on the technical regulation. Therefore most 76-77 GHz radar applications were applied by paperwork using RF and EMC reports issued by non-Indonesian testing Labs. But, this was not totally okay because not test reports from non-Indonesian labs are accepted by SDPPI. SDPPI only accepts test reports from the lab listed on their lab accreditation list. So, if the reports are issued by non-SDPPI-accredited test lab, then these can not be used to do paperwork. And they couldn’t do local test eaither, Which means that the only way out to certify the 76-77 GHz radar was by doing another RF and EMC test in another SDPPI-accredited test lab. Obviously, this was time consuming, and not cost-efficient.
Fortunately, by early 2022, Balai Besar Pengujian Perangkat Telekomunikasi (BBPPT or SDPPI Lab) came up with the good news; now they can perform testing on vehicular radar 76-77 GHz. Our company have used this service before, and some certificates for 76-77 GHz radar were successfully issued using the test report from SDPPI Lab. To do vehicular radar test, commonly we need 2 normal samples. One sample will be used for RF test, and one sample will e used for EMC test. But if you have only one sample, it’s okay. We can do RF and EMC test in consecutive with a consequence that both testing can not run in parallel.
That’s all we need to inform. For those who still got their 76 – 77 GHz vehicular radar not certified by Indonesian SDPPI yet, you can use this service. Doing local test has some benefits. Besides being able to understand the regulation, the price is relatively lower too.
