Singapore Type Approval Certification is typically processed through paperwork. If the product already has RF and EMC test report according to international standard such as CE or FCC, doing local test in Singapore is not needed. Applicant can submit the existing CE or FCC report along with other documentations to IMDA, and IMDA will evaluate to determine whether the product complies to their standards or not. Once it complies, then IMDA Certificate will be released for 5 years of validity.
With this certification scheme, doing local test in Singaporean testing lab is not necessary, unless the product doesn’t have existing RF and EMC test report yet. Therefore, it can be concluded that generally for Singapore type approval certification process, sending sample is not required because the process is full paperwork.
Why We Care
Sample preparation can be a long and complicated process, especially for the countries who need specific sample set up. Many manufacturers allocate a lot of their times and resources in this process. They prepare sample in a careful manner according to country’s specific requirements. This is done in order to make the approval process runs smoothly without any technical issue in the future. But things can be different in Singapore. Because their approval process doesn’t need sample, it means that the process can be started immediately. Manufacturer doesn’t have to allocate a lot of time for sample preparation, because approval process can be started if they have existing RF and EMC test. Therefore, they can save the time and allocate it for another process.
