But, you might be wondering how to replace a fan capacitor? And for you DIY-freaks that love tinkering around electronic devices, this article suits you the best!

Enough with the gibber-gabber, let’s dive into it!

How to Replace a Fan Capacitor

How to Replace a Fan Capacitor: A Step-by-Step Guide

1. Turn Off and Unplug Your Fan

The first and foremost thing to do is to turn off and unplug your electric fan before proceeding to another step.

This is so important because we’re not immune to electricity, so unless you’re quite confident in your tolerance to electricity, it is wise to turn off and make sure to unplug your fan from the power sources.

2. Remove the Fan Cover

After that, to replace the fan capacitor, you need to open the fan cover. This usually involves using a screwdriver to remove some of the screws that hold the cover in place.

Make sure you use a screwdriver that matches the type of screws used on the fan cover, so as not to damage the screws or cover.

Once the screws are removed, carefully lift or remove the cover to access the inside of the fan where the capacitor is located.

3. Remove the Capacitor

After you remove the cover and located the capacitor, the next thing is to remove the capacitor from the electric motor of your fan.

There are several things you can do depending on the model of your fan. Usually, you can remove it by either using a screwdriver to loosen the wire terminals, or cut the cable off.

And only after that, you can carefully remove the faulty capacitor.

4. Install the New Capacitor

Next, you can install a replacement capacitor or a new fan capacitor with relatively easy steps.

First, make sure the new capacitor to be installed has the same specifications as the old capacitor.

Connect the new capacitor to the wires that you have previously noted for its position.

Match the capacitor terminals with the appropriate wires, and make sure each connection is firmly and securely in place.

And much like the step before but reversed, you can either use a screwdriver to re-fasten the connection or solder the previously cutted wire.

Once all the wires are properly connected, make sure the new capacitor is firmly in place. Double-check all connections to ensure no wires are loose or disconnected.

5. Reinstall the Cover

After you’re sure that the new capacitor is firmly and correctly connected, you can reinstall the cover of your fan.

Test run the new capacitor by turning on your fan and make sure it operates smoothly at different speeds.

If there’s any unusual thing such as the fan not operating correctly, double-check your capacitor connections to ensure it is firmly and correctly connected.

Or if you’re already desperate, calling a professional for further assistance can be a good thing to do.

And voila! If everything is going well, your fan should be functioning normally again!

And that’s how you replace a fan capacitor in a DIY manner!

Did you know that the electric fan is one of the many products that are mandatory to be certified by the SNI certification in Indonesia?

This is because the risk of an electric fan might be concerning for the Indonesian consumers, as the fan that is not properly manufactured can cause a failure and can even be dangerous for its users.

The electric fan that is about to be distributed in Indonesia must undergo a series of tests to determine its quality and safety.

After all of those tests have passed and the electric fan is met with the requirements that have been set, the electric fan is ready to be distributed and sold in the Indonesian market.

For the electric fan and other household electrical devices, the regulation is clearly stated in SNI IEC 60335-1:2009.
