Benefits of Canola Oil

Hidden Benefits of Canola Oil

Canola oil is a vegetable oil made from the seeds of the canola plant. Just like cooking oil in general, canola oil contains three types of fat, namely saturated fat, monounsaturated fat, and polyunsaturated fat.

In terms of nutrition, one spoonful of canola oil contains 124 calories and 16% vitamin E. Canola oil also contains 64% monounsaturated fat and 28% polyunsaturated fat (omega-3 and omega-6). Another advantage of canola oil is its lower saturated fat content, which is around 7%.

Using canola oil as a substitute for cooking oil in food processing, accompanied by the use of healthy food ingredients, and coupled with a healthy lifestyle, can provide various health benefits, such as:

1. Lowering Bad Cholesterol

One of the benefits of canola oil is that it can reduce low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels in the blood. This is due to the low levels of saturated fat in canola oil.

Not only that, the high unsaturated fat content in canola oil can increase the level of good cholesterol (high density lipoprotein/HDL) in the blood.

2. Supporting Heart Health

Canola oil is also good for maintaining heart health. Because the omega-3 and omega-6 content in canola oil can increase good cholesterol levels which can reduce the risk of heart disease.

3. Stabilize Blood Sugar Level

The unsaturated fats contained in canola oil are not only useful for heart health, but can also help maintain blood sugar levels. This means that the risk of developing diabetes will be smaller.

In addition, if consumed regularly, canola oil can also increase insulin sensitivity by up to 9%.

This benefit can be felt by people with high blood sugar levels as well as those with normal blood sugar levels.

4. Prevents Cell Damage

The vitamin E found in canola oil offers important benefits in protecting the body’s cells.

Vitamin E has powerful antioxidant properties, which work to fight free radicals-reactive molecules that can damage body cells and cause various health problems.

Free radicals are formed naturally in the body due to metabolic processes and can also arise from exposure to external factors such as pollution, sunlight, and stress.

If not controlled, free radicals can cause oxidative damage to cells, potentially leading to premature aging and chronic diseases.

Vitamin E works by neutralizing free radicals, reducing potential damage to body cells, and protecting cell integrity and function.

5. Reduces Inflammation

A study shows that the unsaturated fat in canola oil can reduce the risk of inflammation.

By lowering inflammation, the risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart disease and type 2 diabetes is also reduced.

In addition, canola oil may help lower bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol, supporting overall heart health.
