The process to make this coffee is also as unique as its taste, involving nearly 30 elephants consuming the Thai Arabica coffee beans.

The coffee will be consumed by the elephants and undergo a natural fermentation process inside elephants’ digestive systems that shaped the unique taste of this coffee.

Those processes are also a reason why Black Ivory is as expensive as it is. With 35 kilos of coffee cherries, only under a kilo of coffee beans produced, thus the availability of Black Ivory is quite limited with only about 225 kg per year.

Similar to Black Ivory and Kopi Luwak, the process of making Misha Coffee also involves animals to give this coffee its unique taste.

In this case, the Coatis, a local animal known for its ability to select ripe coffee cherries, is fed with the cherries.

The beans that are consumed by the Coatis are mixed with previously consumed fruits like pineapples or papaya, thus influencing the coffee’s flavor profile.
