Types of PVC Pipe Fittings – PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) pipe fittings are important components in PVC pipe systems that are used to connect, direct, or divide flow in pipelines.

PVC fittings are available in various types and shapes according to application needs. Here are some types of PVC pipe fittings that are commonly used:

Types of PVC Pipe Fittings

Types of PVC Pipe Fittings

1. Elbows

Elbow is a fitting with a curved angle used to change the direction of flow of PVC pipes. There are two common types of elbows, which are the 90 degree elbow and the 45 degree elbow.

The 90-degree elbow is used to sharply change the direction of the pipe, while the 45-degree elbow is used for a more gentle change in direction.

Elbows are essential in designing pipe systems that require changes in flow direction, such as in the installation of water lines or irrigation systems.

2. Coupling

Couplings are fittings used to connect two PVC pipes of the same size directly. Couplings function to maintain flow continuity and extend the pipe. .

PVC coupling fittings generally have a hollow design in the center that allows both ends of the pipe to be inserted and connected securely.

Couplings are used in various pipe applications, both in clean water systems, sewage systems, and irrigation systems.

3. End Cap

End Cap is a fitting used to close the end of a PVC pipe, ending the flow of fluid in the system. End caps are often referred to as caps or hubcaps in the market.

This fitting has a flat and solid cap-like shape, which is attached to the end of the pipe to prevent leaks and protect the pipe from dirt or insects.

4. Tee Y

A Y Tee (Y Tee or Wye) is a PVC pipe fitting with a “Y” shape used to divide pipe flow into three different paths.

A Y tee has one input line and two output lines, which allows the fluid flow to split into two different branch pipes.

Y tees are often used in plumbing systems to divide flow into two branches that have different flow directions.

5. Flanges

A flange is a flat ring-shaped fitting with a hole in the center. These fittings are used to connect two sections of PVC pipe directly with bolts and nuts.

A flange is particularly useful in applications that require a solid, removable connection between two pipes or between a pipe and equipment, such as a pump or tank.

Other than that, flanges are also able to attach accessories and other items to the pipe. They can also increase the strength of the pipe.

6. Tee

A tee is a fitting with a “T” shape that is used to divide the flow of PVC pipe into two different paths.

A tee has three channels, one input and two outputs, which allows the fluid flow to split into two different pipes.

Tee fittings are particularly useful in water distribution in systems that require branching or channeling to multiple points, such as in building plumbing systems or complex irrigation systems.

7. Reducer

Reducer is a fitting used to connect two PVC pipes of different sizes, reducing the pipe diameter proportionally.

Reducers have two ends of different sizes, which allows a reduction in flow from the larger pipe to the smaller pipe.

Reducers are very useful in situations where a change in pipe size is required, such as reducing water flow from a large pipe to a smaller pipe or connecting PVC pipes to equipment that has a different size.

There you have it! The types of PVC pipe fittings all in one bite!

The applications of PVC are indeed so diverse in a lot of settings, but one thing that is so important is to choose the PVC product that has been tested for its quality and safety.

As in Indonesia, the PVC products are needed to be tested then certified to ensure that it is safe to be sold and distributed in the markets.

The said certification is called the SNI Certification that regulates most if not all of the products and/or services in Indonesia.

And for the PVC itself, the regulations are as diverse as its applications. From the SNI certification for PVC insulated cable that stated in 04-6628.3-2006, 04-6628.4-2006 and 04-6628.5-2006.
And up to the SNI certification for PVC casted boots that is stated in SNI 1547:2017, and everything in between.
