How Much Water Does HE Washer Use

Ever wonder how much water does HE washer use? Well, generally speaking, it’s around 13 gallons or 49,2L of water.

Compared to a standard washing machine that uses around 23 gallons (87,1 L), a HE washer uses much less water thus making it more efficient and energy friendly.

HE washers usually come with front-load models that use even much less water than a top load HE washer that uses either an agitators.

But, other than that, there are some of the things you should know that can affect your washing machine water usage, let’s get going!

What Can Affect Washing Machine Water Usage?

How Much Water Does HE Washer Use?

There are few things that can affect the water usage of your machine. Things like wash cycles, load size, rinse settings can greatly impact the uses of water on your washing machine.

You most likely will use more water if you perform heady duty cycles for bulky items compared to normal cycles.

Keep in mind that wash cycles vary and it’s specifically designed for specific clothing. The best way is to keep using the wash cycles according to the manufacturer’s recommendation to ensure the best result for your clothes and an optimal performance of your washing machines.

And in addition to that, if you’re using normal rinse settings, normally your machine will use a spray rinse during the rinse cycle.

However, things are different if you use fabric softener or extra rinse settings, as those said settings will cause your washing machine to use a deep fill rinse which in turn requires more water.

But, with that being said, either a top load or front load high efficiency washers will most likely be more water efficient than traditional or regular washing machines.

How Do Water Efficient Washers Work?

A water-efficient washing machine can determine the size of the load and the amount of water used. Less water allows for increased friction between fabrics and optimal cleaning.

On top of that, a specifically formulated HE detergent works best with less water that is not too diluted, allowing for a more concentrated clean.

These factors working together allow your water-saving washing machine to use less water than a standard machine yet still deliver the washing power you need.

1. Auto Sensors

Some of the HE washers are equipped with auto sensing technology that is able to sense the load size and the best water level needed to clean your clothes.

2. Less Water Means Better Wash Action

Either a front load or top load impeller, high efficiency washers rely on the friction of clothes that rub against each other.

And because of less water separating the clothes, more friction between fabrics is created thus creating better wash action.

3. Concentrated Detergent

Because it uses less water, it means that the water is not “wasted” to diluting detergent as done in regular deep fill washers.

Use HE detergent to work with low water levels. If you have an HE washer, non-HE detergents produce more suds than needed and may cause longer cycle times.

Too much detergent can leave residue. It is best to always follow the recommended usage for your load for optimal results.

In conclusion, high-efficiency (HE) washers offer a significant advantage when it comes to water conservation, typically using around 13 gallons (49.2 liters) of water per load, compared to the 23 gallons (87.1 liters) used by standard washing machines.

These washers achieve this by utilizing advanced features such as auto-sensing technology, which adjusts the water level based on load size, and improved wash mechanisms that rely on friction between clothes rather than large amounts of water.

While factors like load size, wash cycle type, and rinse settings can influence water usage, HE washers remain more efficient overall.
