Fire Sprinkler Inspection Standard

Fire Sprinkler Inspection According to SNI Standard

Before we get going with our main topic, let’s get to know several fire sprinkler inspection standards that apply in Indonesia!

1. SNI 03-3989-2000

The first one is the SNI (Standar Nasional Indonesia) or Indonesia National Standard.

SNI itself is a standard that regulates every product and or services that is sold and/or distributed in Indonesia.

And for the fire sprinkler, the standard is clearly stated in SNI 03-3989-2000, which regulates the planning, installation, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems with the main objective of ensuring the safety and effectiveness of the system in dealing with fires.

2. Minister of Public Works Regulation No. 26/PRT/M/2008

This regulation regulates the technical requirements of fire protection systems in buildings and the environment, one of which is fire sprinklers.

Therefore, make sure your building complies with these technical requirements to get a certificate of function.

3. NFPA 25 Sprinkler and Hydrant Inspection Method

This standard from the National Fire Protection Association outlined the inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems, this included the fire sprinkler system.

4. Minister of Manpower Regulation No. PER-04/MEN/1980

This regulation from the Ministry of Manpower regulates the requirements for the installation and maintenance of fire protection systems in the workplace, including sprinklers.

Fire Sprinkler Inspection Methods

Fire Sprinkler Inspection According to SNI Standard

1. Preparation

Make sure you have checked the previous documentation and inspection history to get a comprehensive understanding of the current condition of the fire sprinkler system.

Also, prepare all the necessary equipment for the inspection, such as pressure gauges and cleaning tools, so that the inspection process runs smoothly and effectively.

2. Visual Inspection

Inspect the fire sprinkler heads carefully to ensure there is no dirt, corrosion, or other physical damage, as damage to these components can disrupt the flow of water needed during a fire.

Also, don’t forget to check the pipes and valves to ensure there are no leaks; leaks can cause a drop in water pressure and reduce the effectiveness of the fire sprinkler system.

3. Test the System

The next method is to perform a pressure test to ensure that water can flow smoothly through the sprinkler system.

This pressure test is important to evaluate the performance of the system and detect any blockages or other problems.

Also, make sure the alarms and warning systems are functioning properly, as inoperative alarms can hinder a quick response in the event of a fire

4. Check the Other Components of the Fire Sprinkler System

Don’t forget to check the valves, pipes, and other components to make sure they are in good condition; if any components are damaged or worn, replace them immediately.

Also, make sure the filters and strainers are clean of any debris that could block the flow of water.

5. Document the Inspection Results

An important final step is to document all findings, both positive and those that require improvement.

Create a detailed inspection report that complies with safety standards, as this will serve as a reference for future actions.

By recording every aspect of the inspection results, you not only ensure transparency, but also make it easier to plan for future repairs and maintenance of the system.

Good documentation will also help in meeting regulatory requirements and ensure the system remains in optimal condition.
