Types of Air Dryer

Types of Air Dryer – After knowing the definition of an air dryer along with its function in our previous article, now it’s time to understand the types of an air dryer!

There are several types of air dryers commonly used on compressors, each with different characteristics and advantages.

So, what are they? Let’s find out!

Types of Air Dryer

Types of Air Dryer

1. Refrigerated Air Dryer

Refrigerated air dryer is one of the most widely used types of compressor water dryers, which uses a cooling system to remove moisture from compressed air.

The compressed air flows through the pipes that circle the refrigerant. In this cooling process, the water vapor in the air is condensed into liquid water and then separated from the air, so the result is more dry air before entering the system.

2. Desiccant Air Dryer

Another commonly used type is the desiccant air dryer. This type of air dryer uses a silica gel or alumina to remove moisture from compressed air. The process itself involves two stages: absorption and regeneration.

In the absorption phase, the desiccant absorbs the water vapor from the compressed air, while in the regeneration phase it is heated to remove the moisture that has been absorbed so that it can be reused.

3. Membrane Air Dryer

The membrane air dryer uses a semipermeable membrane to separate water vapor from compressed air.

The compressed air will flows through the membrane, where smaller water molecules can pass through it, while larger air molecules are blocked.

Through this process, the water contained in the compressed air can be separated and removed, producing a drier air.

4. Heatless Air Dryer

Heatless air dryers are a type of air dryer that uses drains and air pressure to remove moisture from compressed air. There are two columns of drains that alternate in the process.

On one column, the dryer absorbs water vapor from the compressed air, while the other column regenerates using air pressure. Through periodic air flow redirection, the heatless water dryer can provide dry air continuously.

5. Blower Purge Air Dryer

A blower purge air dryer is a type of dryer that uses a blower to regenerate drizzles.

Compressed air flows through columns of moisture-filled dryer, then the blower flows dry air to regenerate the dryer.

The advantage of blower purge air dryers is that they use less air compared to heatless dryers, thereby reducing energy consumption.
