SNI Certification for Batteries in Indonesia – Batteries are indeed one of the instruments that are very useful for our daily needs.
However, the existence of the battery must also be considered, especially for the safety aspects and also the quality of the battery itself.
Therefore, a standard must be made to ensure that all batteries that is sold and distributed have a good quality and safety to ensure the safety of their users,

SNI IEC 60086-1:2015: The SNI Certification for Batteries in Indonesia

SNI IEC 60086-1:2015 specifies the general requirements for primary batteries, focusing on their design, performance, and safety.
The standard is part of a series of international standards developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) that deal with various aspects of battery technology.
There are several objectives of the SNI IEC 60086-1:2015, let’s see the explanation down below!
- Define Performance Criteria: Set standards for battery performance to ensure reliability and compatibility with any devices.
- Establish Safety Standards: Ensure that batteries are safe to use, handle, and dispose of.
- Provide Testing Methods: Outline procedures for testing battery performance and safety.

Key Aspects of SNI IEC 60086-1:2015

There are several key aspects that stated in this certification, which includes:
1. Design and Construction Requirements
The standard outlines specific design and construction requirements for lead-acid batteries. These include:
- Material Specifications: Requirements for the materials used in battery construction to ensure durability and safety.
- Physical Dimensions: Guidelines on the dimensions and tolerances of battery components.
- Labeling: Requires clear labeling of batteries with information such as type, size, and manufacturer details to facilitate proper use and handling.
2. Performance
SNI IEC 60086-1:2015 specifies performance metrics that batteries must meet, including:
- Capacity: The battery’s ability to store and deliver electrical energy, typically measured in ampere-hours (Ah).
- Voltage: The nominal voltage of the battery, which must be consistent with the stated specifications under standard testing conditions.
- Discharge Characteristics: Performance during discharge, including how the battery maintains voltage over its lifetime and how it responds to different discharge rates.
3. Safety Standards
Safety is a crucial aspect of SNI IEC 60086-1:2015. The standard includes:
- Handling and Storage: Guidelines for the safe handling, storage, and transportation of batteries to prevent accidents and environmental damage.
- Leakage Prevention: Requirements for the overall construction of batteries to prevent leakage, which can cause damage or safety hazards.
- Environmental Protection: Requirements for the proper disposal and recycling of batteries to minimize environmental impact.
4. Testing and Quality Control
To ensure compliance with the standard, SNI IEC 60086-1:2015 includes detailed procedures for testing and quality control:
- Performance Testing: Procedures for assessing battery performance under various conditions, including charge and discharge cycles.
- Quality Assurance: Guidelines for ongoing quality control to maintain the consistency and reliability of battery production.

Implementation and Compliance

For manufacturers and suppliers, compliance to SNI IEC 60086-1:2015 involves:
- Certification: Obtaining certification from relevant authorities to demonstrate compliance with the standard.
- Regular Audits: Undergoing regular audits and inspections to ensure ongoing adherence to the standard’s requirements.
- Documentation: Maintaining thorough documentation of testing results, quality control processes, and compliance measures.
So there you have it! The SNI certification for batteries in Indonesia! This regulation has a strong impact to ensure the safety of batteries.
Consumers will be more assured knowing that the products they have purchased are already tested for its quality and safety.
However, this SNI standard does not only have benefits for consumers.
Because by complying with the regulations in SNI IEC 60086-1:2015, manufacturers or distributors of batteries will gain the full trust of consumers in Indonesia, and you will have legal power in the distribution of your battery products.
In addition, following these regulations will also make it easier for you to market your products, as the presence of the SNI logo on your product can be used as marketing tools to further boost your business’ revenue.

Thank you for the information. I am looking for the manufacturer to supply LR44 batteries for our products, which will be imported to Indonesia. However, I couldn’t find any supplier that provided an SNI-certified LR44 battery.
I wonder if any battery manufacturers exist? Any suggestions from you?
Hello Mr. Ronald, thank you for leaving comments. This is Eko from Dimulti,
Regarding the list of battery supplier, you may check to Ministry of Trade website that has a list of “Product Registration Number” or NPB for primary battery products. A product that registers for NPB are those that’s already certified by SNI. You may check the NPB applicant. It’s either the manufacturer, distributor, or importer of the SNI-certified primary battery. Here’s the link: https://lamansitu.kemendag.go.id/domestic-product/detail/baterai-primer
