Non-cellular LPWA is a new trend in the industry. It is started to be used widely for the past few years with applications that is getting wider from time to time. The wide coverage with significantly lower power consumption is the main reason of this technology is getting more popular these days. However, the use of this technology must be regulated by authority. Even though non-cellular LPWA mostly works in free-license bands, but the products that use this technology must be standardized. So, it won’t cause any interferences with other neighboring technologies.
In Indonesia, LPWA devices (both cellular and non-cellular) was regulated under PERDIRJEN SDPPI NO 3 TAHUN 2019. But this regulation is already quite long ago and needs to be updated in order to catch up with the newest advancement of LPWA technology. So, on November 7th 2023 SDPPI issued a regulation draft of Non-cellular LPWA technology. This draft was issued for public consultations to get public’s input. And now, after around 2 months, Minister of communications and informatics of the republic of iIdonesia finally released the final version of this regulation called KEPMEN KOMINFO NO 5 TAHUN 2024. What’s new from this regulation? Below are the list of some important points to note:
- Non-cellular LPWAN equipment must be permanently factory locked so that it can only work on radio frequency bands as allocated in the technical regulation.
- Some points that are strictly egulated by this technical regulation are:
- Configurations
- power supply requirements;
- non-ionizing radiation requirements;
- electrical safety requirements;
- EMC requirements;
- radio frequency requirements, with allocations:
- 433.05 – 434.79 MHz,
- 920 – 923 MHz, and
- 2400 – 2483.5 MHz
- filter requirements; And
- test method.
For better understanding, below is the English version of KEPMEN KOMINFO NO 5 TAHUN 2024. You can find the standard on CHAPTER II: Conformity Requirements from page 6-8
