But, after operating for more than 12 years from 2013, finally the government of Mexico took a major step by issuing Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) on July 16th, 2025. This Gazette later on became valid on the following day, July 17th, 2025.

With the issuance of this new regulation, it marked the establishment of National Antitrust Commission (CNA) and Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications (ATDT), which bring impact on the telecommunication certification in Mexico. Besides, Telecommunications Regulatory Commission or CRT was also formed.

CRT was officially formed on October 17th, 2025. However, the body started to actively work on October 21st, 2025. Along with ATDT, CRT is will take over the responsibility that belonged to IFT, including the telecommunication product certification. That’s why the telecommunication product certificate in Mexico is now called as “CRT Certificate”.

However, the function of CRT is not only taking over the responsibility of IFT. It’s far beyond that. CRT is not only focus on product certification. But it also focuses to strengthen and modernize the regulatory aspects by issuing more relevant updated, and practical regulation in telecommunication sector.

Why We Care

The first question to ask when starting type approval certification process is usually related to the regulatory body. This is important to know especially when the target country manages multiple approvals under multiple regulatory bodies. By knowing which regulatory body is relevant for our product, it will be easier for us to know what approval is required, the requirements, and the procedure that we must go through. That’s why when doing Mexico type approval, we will make sure to direct you to the relevant regulatory body for your product. So, at the end of the process, the product can fulfill the requirements and can be safely delivered to the Mexican market.

For some of us who are already familiar with Mexico type approval, we may know that this approval process is manged by Federal Telecommunications Institute or IFT.
