However, local testing is not fully mandatory when we process a type approval in Malaysia. Manufacturers can skip the local testing if they already have foreign test reports from international testing labs.

Even though manufacturers can skip local testing for most radio features, but functionality verification test is still required for cellular-based devices. Before manufacturers carry out SIRIM certification, they must have test reports of the equipment they wish to certify. Therefore, it is still important for manufacturers to know sample requirements for Malaysia type approval.

Sample Requirement

As we already mentioned before, Malaysia type approval does not require applicants to conduct local testing in Malaysia for most radio features. However, functionality verification test is still mandatory if the device has cellular features.

SIRIM will ask 1 unit sample, and mostly normal mode sample is sufficient for functionality verification test. SIRIM will not conduct full compliance testing, they will only perform a short and non-destructive verification test to confirm following parameters:

Model and label check: physical inspection to match the model, brand, and rating label with the submission documents.

Frequency band confirmation: ensure that the devices work within the allowable frequency bands in Malaysia and restricted to approved channels only.

Output power check: spot check to ensure ERP/EIRP is within the approved limit.

Connectivity check: whether or not the testing devices can sending and receiving data normally.

Basic operation test: power-on, transmit and receive behavior, and essential functions match the user manual.

Please note that sample for functionality verification test is not returnable. SIRIM will retain the unit for compliance records and potential use during market surveillance throughout the certificate validity period. This is a standard regulatory practice in Malaysia.

Why We Care

Shipping the correct sample configuration is very important for Malaysia type approval process. This can avoid double shipment due to the incorrect sample configuration. In other words, shipping the correct sample configuration can definitely cut down the unnecessary cost caused by multiple sample shipping.

Therefore, before applying Malaysia type approval, we suggest you consult with our expert regarding the sample requirements. Feel free to drop an email to info@narmadi.com if you have any questions about the test sample requirements or anything related testing process for Malaysia type approval.

Sample is something that we need to pay attention before conducting Malaysia type approval.
