Especially for Indonesia type approval, ensuring what sample is required prior to the shipment is important. This will be useful to make sure that the shipped samples are the correct ones.

For Indonesia, there are three types of samples that are required when it comes to telecommunication product testing, namely:

Conducted sample

Normal or Commercial Sample

Radiated Sample

Each of the type of these samples will be explained in the explanation below:

Conducted Sample

Conducted sample is the kind of sample required to do RF test. Conducted means that the sample already has SMA connector (can be male or female type of SMA) which is connected to the RF module of the product. Therefore, radio frequency that is transmitted from the module will be transmitted directly to the SMA connector. SMA connector will be connected to the spectrum analyzer, so the transmission will be forwarded through this connector to spectrum analyzer directly. Here’s the example of SMA connector:

Some products such as wireless router or access point already have SMA connector by default. Usually, it’s located in the antenna port. If that’s the case, then we don’t need open up the product/sample to affix SMA connector to the RF module inside the product. We can just connect this port to the spectrum analyzer. But, if by default the product doesn’t have SMA connector, we need to open up the product or the sample to affix SMA connector to it.

Then, in what cases do we need to make conducted sample? Conducted sample is needed in Radio Frequency (RF) Testing, especially when we test product that has the following RF features: Bluetooth, ANT+, Zigbee, Other SRD devices operating in 2.4 GHz band, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz RLAN/WLAN, RFID with frequency 920 – 923 MHz, cellular (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G), LPWA/IoT, and more.

Normal / Commercial sample

Normal sample is just a normal product that has not been modified yet. This sample is just the same as the commercial product that will go into the market. Normal sample is usually needed to do:

Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Test

Electrical Safety Test

Laser Safety Test,

Radio Frequency (RF test) for product with the following RF Specification: SRD 125 KHz, SRD 134 KHz, NFC, RFID 13.56 MHz, Low Power 433 MHz, radar 24 GHz, Radar 77 GHz, and many more.

Radiated Sample

Radiated sample is sample that has no SMA connector affixed to it, or not experiencing any physical modification. However, this sample already has mechanism/software installed in it, to enable us to control the frequency transmission. For example, through push of a button, we can set the sample to transmit specific channel of the product.

For DJID application, radiated sample is not really required for specific test. However, this sample can be used to do Electromagnetic Compatibility test, when the normal or commercial sample is not available. Or, for some products with RF features such as SRD 125 KHz, SRD 134 KHz, NFC, RFID 13.56 MHz, Low Power 433 MHz, radar 24 GHz, or Radar 77 GHz, radiated sample is acceptable to do RF test.

Why We Care

Shipping the correct sample configuration is very important for Indonesia Type Approval process. This can avoid double shipment due to the incorrect sample configuration. In other words, shipping the correct sample configuration can definitely cut down the unnecessary cost caused by multiple sample shipping. Therefore, before applying Indonesia Type Approval Certification, we suggest you consult with our expert regarding what sample configuration is required.

Sample is something that we need to pay attention before starting an approval process.
